Couples Counseling

Intimacy and connection are fundamental ingredients to healthy relationships. Marriages thrive when loyalty, hard work, confession, and forgiveness give way to the safety and goodness of intimacy. Marriage often starts out on a peak but must descend through the valley to experience the real beauty of what love has to offer. I base my work with couples off of the fundamentals of Susan Johnson’s EFT model (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) and Family Systems Theory. Relationships are a complex dance of forces that influence the way we move inside of our relationships. Forces like family history, trauma, personality, fear, and survival all shape the way we interact with our loved ones. It is my goal in couples therapy to help partners learn how their story powerfully influences the choices they make interpersonally and how these interactions lead to predictable patterns unique to each marriage. After developing a better understanding of “your dance,” I help couples gain the tools they need to navigate the changes necessary for their goals toward a healthier “dance.”
