  • Individual Counseling

At some point, for all of us, life becomes too much to manage on our own. We come to the end our ability to make life work and need another to lean on and to know that we don’t have to go it alone. Someone to help bear the weight of being human. Individual therapy is a chance to explore your relationships, cultivate deeper self-awareness and find support in places that we often hide from others out of fear and shame. In my individual work with clients, I lean heavily on the work of therapists and thinkers like Dan Allender, and his story model, and Irvin Yalom and the theory of interpersonal process. Each one of us has a collection of hundreds and hundreds of experiences that shape us over the years. They tell our story. Understanding how all of these experiences have shaped us and influenced how we behave in relationships is critical to the work of individual therapy.

  • Couples Counseling

Intimacy and connection are fundamental ingredients to healthy relationships. Marriages thrive when loyalty, hard work, confession and forgiveness give way to the safety and goodness of intimacy. Marriage often starts out on a peak, but must descend through the valley in order to experience the real beauty of what love has to offer. I base my work with couples off of the fundamentals of Susan Johnson’s EFT model (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) and Family Systems Theory. Relationships are a complex dance of forces that influence the way we move inside of our relationships. Forces like family history, trauma, personality, fear, and survival all shape the way we interact with our loved ones. It is my goal in couples therapy to help partners learn how their story powerfully influences the choices they make interpersonally and how these interactions lead to predictable patterns unique to each marriage. After developing a better understanding of “your dance”, I help couples gain the tools they need to navigate the changes necessary for their goals toward a healthier “dance”.
